MERMAID PHANTOM MAKES A FISH FRIEND!!! 💙 Did you know that mermaids like fish, but fish don't always like mermaids? It's TRUE! Real mermaids love befriending fish, but fish can be skittish and are often afraid of humans and mermaids alike... especially lake fish! However, this smallmouth bass is a rare exception. This cute fish was found while Michigan's mermaid was exploring a beautiful patch of lush seaweed near a buoy. It was her first time being released into Crystal Lake, a small freshwater lake near Beulah, Michigan. She was overjoyed when her new friend come over to say hello!! 💜

STORY TIME!!
So there we were... minding our own business. Dad and I had just finished filming a few video shots and were resting by a buoy before continuing on our way. All was calm and quiet when all of the sudden my dad dove into the water without warning. He popped up a moment later gasping for air while trying to say something with an excited tone to his voice. I had no idea what he was saying, and blind ol' me couldn't see what he was pointing to. I got closer to listen, and he said that there was a big fish- the biggest we had seen yet- staring at his legs. I dove into the water in an attempt to see the blurry image of the fish he mentioned. And there is was... a HUGE smallmouth bass. Staring at ME.

I swam towards him, and he didn't budge much. He avoided my touch, but that was really it. We stayed near this cute fish for a good chunk of time... taking turns getting stared at by him.

After a few minutes passed, we both agreed that the fish may have had a nest and that we should probably leave it alone... so we left the area and headed closer to the main area of the beach. We were still out pretty deep, but far away from the fish's domain, as to give it space. There was a little girl snorkeling out by where we were, and she naturally wanted to talk to the mermaid. We talked for a while and told her about our fish friend.

Moments later, she went under the water and came up telling us that she saw a fish with red eyes. We didn't really believe her, since we figured there was no way a fish would be hanging out around the three of us. She probably just made it up to have a fish friend like the mermaid.

And then we got home... and I reviewed the video footage. The girl wasn't kidding. We did some filming in the area where she was swimming. And WHO did we see photo-bombing our video? That silly little smallmouth bass. It FOLLOWED us from the far-right buoy all the way over to the main swimming area.

As it turns out, it didn't have a nest. It was curious.... and possibly lonely. I love that fish so much. 💜 Dad and I have watched the video clips of him more times than I care to admit. There was something very special about this bass. I hope we get to see him again sometime soon. ♥
